Fistral is one of the UK’s premier surf spots. Located a short walk from Newquay Town Center, Fistral Beach is known to many as the home of British surfing.
A short drive from Watergate Bay, this thriving town boasts an abundance of surf schools and surf shops, as well as a vibrant nightlife. Best for intermediate surfers, the waves hold some challenges even for the experienced.
The surf is consistent and at high tide the beach is shelving which can create a shore break. For surfers and watersports Fistral can be split between North and South Fistral:
Works best at all tides when big swells are coming in. On low tide, some cracking barrels and peaks are produced. Mainly a right-hander with submerged rocks and rips for lefts during high tide. Good for beginners although can get busy in summer.
Usually left breaks here and best from mid to high tide. Best swell direction west southwest. South to southeast wind is offshore. Suitable for beginners although watch for rips.
Access to Fistral is on Headland Road. There is a small car park adjacent to the beach, follow the signs from the town center to Fistral beach and The Headland, however this is usually full during the season. It is generally advisable to park in Newquay’s long stay car parks and to walk to the beach.
